The commission has received authorization to conduct a hand recount of the ballots cast in the election, which included five races for the BOMA.
"The election commission has been given the authority by Secretary of State Tre Hargett through Mark Goins, coordinator of elections, to address issues that arose among specific voting machine tabulators used in yesterday’s Oct. 26, 2021, Franklin municipal election," officials said in a statement. "Believing that vote totals may be incomplete due to a software issue, the commission will convene along with a member of an eight-member counting board to hand-count ballots cast on election day from each of the eight polling locations."
While the majority of the races did not have close results, in Ward 3, candidates had a slim margin, with Jason Potts earning 49.17% of votes and Michelle Sutton earning 48.04%. The candidates were separated by 25 votes, according to data from the election commission.
The recount will be held at 1 p.m., according to election officials.
