The center, also known as Franklin Plaza, located along Columbia Avenue near downtown Franklin, adjacent to the Franklin Police Department, will be razed by Nashville-based H.G. Hill Realty Co. LLC, the developer behind local projects such as Hill Center Brentwood.
The center was most recently home to Our Thrift Store, which closed in June 2020 and relocated to Columbia.
According to a release form the company, crews are working to safely remove asbestos from the buildings, and demolition has been set for early November, pending an application from the city of Franklin.
A development plan from the company for any future buildings has not been announced; however, H.G. Hill CEO Jimmy Granbery said the company will be working with residents and the city moving forward.
“We are pleased to take this initial step as we determine the best and right path forward for this important property,” Granbery said in a release. “We look forward to working with city officials, the historic preservation community and our Franklin neighbors as we explore development plans.”
