The Saber Robotics team at St. Gabriel's Catholic School, 2500 Wimberly Lane, Austin, was recently awarded a Qualcomm Veteran Grant of $2,000 to go toward participation in the 2017-18 FIRST Robotics Competition. Money from the grant will be used to support the development of the team's robot, as well as expenses associated with involvement in the competition, according to a news release. In addition to raising funds, students in the robotics program design and market their team's brand, engage the community through educational outreach and develop STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) skills. Last year, the team's robot, "Amber," advanced to the First Tech Challenge World Championship in Athens, Georgia.
