1. FM 2920, Business 249 Improvements


Construction is underway to overlay portions of Business 249 and FM 2920 from Hwy. 249 to Howard Street. The Texas Department of Transportation started the next phase of overlaying Business

249 on Aug. 7, adding the tack coat—or binding agent—over the old asphalt on Business 249 from just south of Theis Lane to Rudel Road. The project will also remove parallel parking along Main Street in downtown Tomball, creating a four-lane road with a center turn lane.

2. Hufsmith-Kohrville Road widening segments 1-6


Planned improvements include widening Hufsmith-Kohrville Road from two to four lanes from Hollow Glen Lane to FM 2920. All mainlanes between Spring Cypress Road and Hollow Glen Lane—Segment 1—have been completed. Segments 2-4 are in the study phase through 2016, and the design phase for segments 2-4 is expected to be completed in 2017-19. Segment 6 from Willow Creek Estates Lane to FM 2920 is in the design phase.

3. FM 1488 at FM 149 overpass


TxDOT is working to create columns and beams on the east and west sides of FM 1488 to build entrance ramps. The overpass will feature two sets of cloverleaf access ramps near Magnolia High School and another across the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad at FM 149. The road will be widened from one lane in each direction to four lanes total with a 16-foot turn lane in the median along FM 1488 from the Mostyn Manor subdivision to Mill Creek Road.

4. FM 1774 utility lines


Magnolia City Council approved the decision June 14 to apply for a 10-year loan through the TxDOT Infrastructure Fund for the relocation of utility pipes that conflict with plans for the FM 1774 overpass. Pending the approval of the loan, relocation of the utilities began in August so construction can continue. The water, sewer, phone and fiber-optic lines must be relocated for flyover construction to continue.

 5. Improvements at Hufsmith-Kohrville and Holderrieth roads


Designs for a traffic signal and left-turn lane at the intersection of Holderrieth and Hufsmith-Kohrville roads in Tomball are being finalized by the Tomball Economic Development Corporation before they are sent to the county. Harris County expects to send the project out for bid in the fourth quarter of 2016.

6. Fagan Lane construction


Construction began on the new Harris County road in late June. The thoroughfare will run parallel to the Grand Parkway, connecting Cedar Lane and Telge Road. The project is expected to take 3 months to complete.
