Since opening full-time in early 2013, UTMB Health’s Women, Infants and Children clinic in Magnolia has seen steady patient growth. The WIC clinic offers nutritious foods as well as nutrition education.

“We provide supplemental food to promote good health for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women and children up to age 5,” WIC clinic clerk 2 Janice Lewis said. “We provide the food itself, including milk, cereal, cheese and eggs. We do promote breast-feeding, and we do offer formula as well.”

Patients who meet the clinic’s income guidelines or those who receive Medicaid, food stamps or benefits through the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program are eligible to receive free services, Lewis said. The 1,200-square-foot clinic receives federal funding to support its 1,400 participating patients, she said.

The clinic accepts walk-in patients and schedules appointments during business hours Monday through Friday.

“We do try to offer quality service and try to make patient visits as easy for them as possible,” Lewis said. “We make sure they know what to bring for their appointments.”
