Magnolia ISD students and parents can mark their calendars for MISD's first college symposium, featuring former Magnolia High School graduate Matthew Finley as guest speaker. Finley graduated from both Stanford University and Pepperdine University, MHS Associate Principal Caitlin Cain said.

The Feb. 21 event will include breakout sessions with experts sharing about NCAA eligibility, writing quality college admissions essays, differences between the SAT and ACT, and International Baccalaureate courses, said Cain, who organized this event. More than 400 people have registered for the event, but walk-ins are still welcome, she said.

"I'm beyond pleasantly shocked at the response we've gotten for this event. It's clearly a need we didn't know we needed," Cain said.

Colleges confirmed for the symposium include:

  • Dallas Baptist University

  • Houston Baptist University

  • Southern Methodist University
