Wanting a fresh start after nearly 30 years in the marketing and advertising industry, Britt Heald opened Vickie B’s on Main in October 2015 with the help of her daughter, Madison, who works as the store’s style consultant.

“I’ve always had an interest [in fashion]. I’m not the fashionable one, [Madison] is the fashionista, but I have always had an interest,” Britt said. “I like shopping for myself and my kids, but I’ve always really enjoyed buying things for people and getting really unique and different items.”

Vickie B’s on Main offers a large variety of women’s clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry. Britt said the store’s style is best described as bohemian chic.

“We’re causal with a flair to it, a style to it, very Californian,” Britt said. “Part of our business plan was to be something that you’re not going to be able to find in every single shop, you’re not going to be able to find it at the mall. It’s not something you’re going to see every day, and those are the things that attract us.”

The Healds said since opening the store, they have cultivated relationships with regulars and often go to the Dallas Market Center to buy clothing for the store with their customers in mind.

“Growing a friendship with those regulars as well, [they’re] not just as a customer that walks in, but also as a friend, too, so you do get to bond with them,” Madison said.

Price point is also a key factor when deciding what to stock at the store. Britt said the average customer spends less than $100 when putting together an outfit at Vickie B’s.

“Our goal is that you can walk in here, get an outfit—whether it be a dress and accessory to go with it—all for under $100,” Britt said. “It should not cost you $300 to look cute.”

After moving from a desk job to retail, Britt said she has enjoyed getting to talk with her customers and helping them pick out a new favorite outfit.

“There is something really rewarding when you put somebody in an outfit and … all of a sudden they have this smile on their face—they’re thrilled,” Britt said. “I would never had thought in a million years that putting together a little outfit for someone is going to change their day, but it does.”
