Here are 4 things to know this week if you live in The Woodlands area.

1. A new, 7,000-square-foot boat house facility opened last week on the waterfront of Lake Woodlands in Northshore Park. The Woodforest Bank Boat House was built to serve as a public boat storage facility for residents of The Woodlands and as a permanent facility for rowing clubs in The Woodlands. The Rowing Club of The Woodlands and Parati Competitive Rowing will both be able to use the new space.

2. The Woodlands Township will discuss proposed budget initiatives for 2018 during a workshop planning session at 4 p.m. Thursday. The board will also meet at 6 p.m. for a regular meeting and will discuss the board’s public comment policy, a report on the 2017 Woodlands Marathon and an update on law enforcement from Harris County Constable Precinct 4 regarding the Village of Creekside Park.

3. The Conroe ISD board of trustees meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a regular meeting to consider approving the school colors and mascots for Grand Oaks High School, York Junior High School and Bradley Elementary. During an April meeting, the proposed colors and mascots were announced. Future Bradley Elementary School students were most in favor of having a bear as their mascot with blue and gray school colors. Future Grand Oaks High School students were in favor of the Grizzlies as a school mascot and having royal blue, orange and gray as their colors. York Junior High School students want to be known as the Grizzlies and work orange into their royal blue and white color scheme to match their new feeder school, Grand Oaks High School.

4. Construction on the new 11-mile Spring Creek Nature Trail began last weekend. Volunteers constructed half a mile of pathway for the trail, which will begin in Harris County, cross into Montgomery County, and end on the west side of I-45. The next event is June 10.
