Construction work and a road closure is underway at Lakeside Boulevard and Lake Woodlands Drive because of a local storm drainage improvement project.

Jim Stinson, general manager of The Woodlands Joint Powers Agency, said the project was developed following the extreme storm events last April and May and is a joint effort by Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 7 and Montgomery County Precinct 3.

During past rain events, stormwater caused traffic delays in the area and drew flooding concerns from homeowners in the immediate area of Berryline Circle.

"The improvements are intended to reduce roadway ponding under similar rainfall events," Stinson said. "The road closure is scheduled to re-open Wednesday or Thursday of this week."

Until the construction is complete, drivers trying to access Lakeside Boulevard from Lake Woodlands Drive will be re-routed to New Trails and Research Forest Drive.
