A long-standing nonprofit in The Woodlands will be able to serve more residents in need thanks to a $30,000 donation received Tuesday from the PGA TOUR Champions organization.

Interfaith of The Woodlands, a charitable partner for the Insperity Invitational golf tournament held annually in The Woodlands, has been named the PGA TOUR Champions Charity of the Year. The recognition is awarded to an organization that has been involved in the success of the tournament.

“Each year, the PGA TOUR Champions designates one tournament as its charity of the year, and it’s a challenging endeavor,” PGA TOUR Champions president Greg McLaughlin said. “Each tournament will submit one recommendation, a charity that means a lot and connects with their tournament … for us, it’s a big deal.”

Missy Herndon, president and CEO of Interfaith of The Woodlands, said the nonprofit is grateful for being selected this year.

“There is a tremendous amount of need in The Woodlands,” she said. “It is everywhere. It is all around us. We’re so grateful those in need know they can always come to Interfaith and be served and loved and cared for.”

The Insperity Invitational runs from May 1-7 at The Woodlands Country Club. The event typically draws crowds of 75,000 people throughout the week, and it is free to the public. A portion of the proceeds is donated to area nonprofits, including Interfaith of The Woodlands.
