The Lone Star College-Montgomery class of 2018 will be recognized for its achievements at a commencement ceremony May 10 and have the opportunity to hear an address by Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale.
The commencement ceremony will be held at The Woodlands Church-Fellowship Campus and will feature 400 students.
McIngvale will present a speech for the graduating students as part of the commencement ceremony.
In 1981, McIngvale and his wife, Linda, moved to Houston and started Gallery Furniture. Named Houston’s Hometown Hero due in large part to his hurricane relief efforts, McIngvale helped raise more than $12 million for the Bush-Clinton Fund launched by former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton to help those affected by the tsunami in Southeast Asia and hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Following Hurricane Harvey, McIngvale opened his store as a safe harbor that provided survivors with food and shelter.
