After months of negotiations and planning, officials are hopeful a project to mitigate traffic at the county line could begin soon.

The project, funded through the bond referendum approved by voters in November 2015, will widen the Gosling Road bridge from two to four lanes. It is estimated to cost between $7 million and $9.27 million.

The bridge expansion is a joint project between Harris and Montgomery counties, with each paying for a portion. The project could also be partially funded by the Texas Department of Transportation.

While Harris County officials have estimated construction could begin on the bridge this year, if it qualifies for state funding, that start date could be postponed to redesign the bridge to state standards.

While an exact timeline for the project has not been announced, Montgomery County officials announced Feb. 26 that payment negotiations between Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle and Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack are in the final stages.
