Sam Houston State University announced Friday that its planned May 10 commencement ceremonies will proceed as scheduled following a night of heavy rainfall and storms. All ceremonies will take place in the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum at the university's Huntsville campus. Farther south, Houston Community College postponed its weekend commencement ceremonies due to rainfall and flooding in the area. Rain and high water conditions lingered around southern Montgomery County Friday morning and a National Weather Service Flash Flood Watch remains in effect in Montgomery and Walker counties until Saturday evening. SHSU holds ceremonies for its graduates in several schools throughout the day. The university's College of Education ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m., along with the College of Health Science's Department of Population Health and Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. At 2:30 p.m., ceremonies for the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and College of Health Science's Department of Nursing and Department of Kinesiology will take place. SHSU commencement ceremonies are scheduled to continue May 11 for graduates in the College of Sciences & Engineering Technology, the College of Fine Arts and Mass Communication and the College of Business Administration.
