The Woodlands Township board of directors meets at 6 p.m. Thursday at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. Here are three items the board will consider.

1. In December, the newly elected board of directors made several appointments to other committees and boards, with the exception of The Woodlands Road Utility District No. 1. There were no volunteers to serve on the WRUD board, which was formed in the 1990s to construct major thoroughfares and connector streets in The Woodlands.

The WRUD levies a commercial property tax rate of 32 cents per $100 valuation, which drew concerns from the township regarding the legality of serving on the board of another taxing entity in the same geographical district. The board will determine what action to take on Thursday, which could include deferring indefinitely or until a later date, taking no action, or appointing a township elected official or staff member to serve on the WRUD board. Township board Chairman Gordy Bunch said this week there have still been no volunteers to serve on the board.

2. Although The Woodlands Township is not responsible for the costs associated with maintaining the water quality in The Woodlands Waterway, it will hear an update regarding recent poor conditions of the water. The water in the upper canal began experiencing growth of aquatic vegetation and algae last summer, which began to affect boat motors. Representatives from The Woodlands Operating Company, who are responsible for maintaining the waterway, have been asked to attend Thursday’s meeting to provide an update on the situation.

3. The board of directors will also consider awarding a bid to a provider for automatic passenger counters for the Town Center trolleys. To satisfy Federal Transit Authority reporting requirements, the township is required to report accurate information regarding passenger boardings and miles traveled. It has previously relied on manual passenger counts, but automatic passenger counters would allow the township to digitally acquire the data. Provider Ride Systems was determined to be the lowest bidder at $27,700.
