Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Bar-B-Que Contest
March 2-4

The Bar-B-Que Contest marks the beginning of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo each year. More than 250 teams of barbecue experts will gather to compete for the coveted Grand Champion title. Tickets include a sliced beef sandwich plate, access to live music areas and carnival admission. 5-11 p.m. March 2, noon-11 p.m. March 3, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. March 4. $15 (ages 13 and older). $5 (children ages 3-12). The Woodlands Marathon
March 3-4

The Woodlands Marathon is a qualifier for The Boston Marathon. Runners will participate in the full or half marathon Saturday morning, and welcome events will take place throughout the day Friday. Registration and packet pick-up is from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday. The Pathfinder Pediatric Homecare 2K Fun Run will take place in Town Green Park at 6:30 p.m. Friday. A course overview with the race director will be open to participants at 11:30 a.m. Friday. The Finish Strong Finish Festival will be ongoing during the marathon from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday. Camel and Ostrich Races
March 3-4

Camels and ostriches will race around the track at Sam Houston Race Park this weekend. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and this is a family-friendly live racing event. Gates for live racing will open at 5:30 p.m. and the races will begin at 7 p.m. (Friday), gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and races will begin at 6 p.m. (Saturday). $7 (general admission), $11 (reserved counter seats), $50 (Winner’s Circle Restaurant).
