Winter Holiday Art Market
This 11th annual market showcases unique holiday gifts crafted by more than 90 local artists. The three-day event begins with an “Ugly Sweater” preview party and happy hour Nov. 18 and continues throughout the weekend with live demonstrations, performances, music, food and free beverages. Bayou City Poetry Grand Slam
This sixth annual competition brings more than 20 performance poets from around the country to compete for cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 for first, second and third place, respectively. The event, presented by Savannah Blue Arts and Outreach, a nonprofit arts organization, is hosted by Christopher Michael and combines theatrical skills with the spoken word. 7-10 p.m. $20 (online), $25 (at the door). Lighting of the Doves and The Woodlands’ Ice Rink
This longstanding Woodlands’ tradition signifies the beginning of the holiday season by illuminating 38 doves throughout the master-planned community. The festival also showcases international performances, snow play areas, vendor booths, children’s activities, strolling entertainment, fireworks and a special appearance by Santa Claus. 3-9 p.m. Free. Prior to the festival, The Woodlands’ ice rink will make its debut at its new home inside the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion’s multipurpose facility. Holiday Brews on the Bayou
This annual event allows participants to get into the holiday spirit with seasonal tastings from 14 local craft brewers including 8th Wonder Brewery, Stella Artois and Spindletap Brewery. Brother and sister singer/songwriter duo Aaron & Ashten will perform live music throughout the afternoon and light bites will be available for purchase. Houston Via Colori Street Painting Festival
More than 200 artists will create chalk masterpieces at this festival, including optical illusion 3-D pieces.
