Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital is receiving national recognition for its treatment of stroke patients.

The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association awarded Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital the Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award on Sept. 24. The award recognizes the hospital’s stroke research and treatments.

The award is given to hospitals that achieve 85 percent or higher adherence of Get With the Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for at least one year, according to Memorial Hermann Sugar Land officials. These indicators help hospitals maintain up-to-date research and treatment guidelines to ensure fast recovery and reduce death and disability for stroke patients.

Strokes are the leading cause of adult disability in the U.S., according to the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. Dr. M. Faisal Khan, director of the neuroscience program at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, said the award helps the hospital focus on guideline-based care for stroke patients, including use of medications.

“Getting this recognition is a testimonial to the hard work we put in on a daily basis for our patients right from the emergency department to the stroke floor,” Khan said. “Stroke patients coming to Memorial Hermann Sugar Land can rest assured that they will get the very best care.”
