Fort Bend ISD board approves school turnaround plans

The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees approved turnaround plans for Briargate and Ridgemont elementary schools Monday—two schools that had failed to meet minimum state education requirements.

The plans call for the schools to receive a total of eight additional staffers. A social worker and a behavior interventionist will split time at the two schools, while each school will receive a strategic planner and a lead master teacher. Briargate will receive a literary interventionist to work with students in kindergarten through fifth grade, while Ridgemont will receive a teacher/coach and a writing intervention teacher, according to school district documents

“We’d like to improve the teaching of writing as well as the students’ performance,” Chief Academic Officer Dr. Phillys Hill told the board.

Hill said an additional staffer was earmarked for Ridgemont because it is a larger school with a larger bilingual population. The approved plans will be submitted to the Texas Education Agency for review.
