Missouri City council member Don Smith will not seek another term on the city council, according to the Fort Bend County Elections Office.

The deadline for candidates to file their candidacy for the Nov. 7 election was Aug. 21, and Smith had not filed the required paperwork by that date, said Robin Heiman assistant elections administrator.

Smith could not be reached for comment.

A total of five candidates are running for Missouri City city council for the general election taking place Nov. 7. There will also be a special election for residents to vote on amendments to the city charter.

Incumbent council member Yolanda Ford of District A is running against contender Sonja Giddings, and incumbent council members Anthony Maroulis and Floyd Emery are running unopposed for Districts C and D, respectively, according to election documents. Resident Jeffrey Boney is running unopposed for Smith's seat representing District B.
