The Sugar Land City Council approved a number of contracts at Tuesday night’s meeting, from which Council Member Bridget Yeung was absent:

New storm sewer to be installed along Lexington
With unanimous support from the council, the largest contract of the night was awarded to Fused Industries LLC for $3.14 million to install a new storm sewer in the neighborhoods along Lexington Boulevard between Settler’s Way and Williams Trace boulevards.

Construction is scheduled to begin in May and will take about a year to complete, according to meeting documents.

Heavy rains in 2015 flooded some homes in the area. A subsequent drainage study recommended diverting much of the rain water that collects in the area into a different outfall at Oyster Creek, according to meeting documents.

Roadway landscaping contracts approved
City Council unanimously approved four contracts totaling $476,266.99 for maintenance and landscaping along the city’s main thoroughfares. The contracts went to three landscaping companies, with two contracts going to Maldonado Nursery and Landscaping to handle landscaping on Hwys. 90 and 6.

Westco Grounds Maintenance Co. Inc. received a contract for landscaping around Hwy. 59, while Yellowstone Landscape – Central Inc. was awarded a contract for work along the city’s smaller thoroughfares, such as Lexington and University boulevards.

Maintenance approved for groundwater wells
The council unanimously approved a $403,631 contract with Weisinger Incorporated to perform maintenance on two of the city’s wells: the Laura Road and Woodchester groundwater wells. Both are located near the intersection of Jess Pirtle Boulevard and Eldridge Road.

“[Weisinger Incorporated] worked on plenty of sites in Sugar Land and they know the city well,” said Timothy Jahn, assistant city engineer.

The work is scheduled to start this month and should be completed in November, according to meeting documents. Jahn said the work should not require any interruptions to water service.
