The bus service officially began July 1 after being approved by the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court on April 14. The new bus routes provide weekday transportation for residents along major thoroughfares in Richmond and Rosenberg.

“Citizens in Richmond and Rosenberg will have more accessibility with the addition of this route and the ability to get to necessary appointments,” Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert said.

The buses operate with a Point Deviation Route Service, which means the vehicles are able to follow a fixed route and keep to a timetable as well as deviate from the route to travel to specific locations. The weekday service offers three fixed routes through Richmond’s business center, between both cities along Hwy. 90 and through Rosenberg. Service fares are $1 per person each way.

Paulette Shelton, director of the Fort Bend County Transit Authority, said the new bus routes will help meet the social and transportation needs of Richmond and Rosenberg residents. Shelton said funding efforts from Richmond-based The George Foundation helped make the bus service a reality.

“The project is the result of a holistic approach initiated by economic development and social needs within the cities of Richmond and Rosenberg and is supported by priorities previously identified by our philanthropic partner, The George Foundation,” Shelton said. “We are honored once again to have the opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of our community partnerships.”
