The Missouri City City Council voted to appoint Assistant City Manager Bill Atkinson as the city’s new interim city manager during its May 4 meeting.

Atkinson will take over as interim city manager May 8, and will replace Bill Eisen, who was named interim city manager in February but recently resigned.

Eisen said he decided resign because he is traveling out of the country for the next four weeks and would not have enough time to dedicate to the city. Eisen was named interim city manager following the departure of former City Manager Ed Broussard who took the same position in Tyler.

“When I accepted the interim city manager position with Missouri City, I had already made plans to take trips that would cause me to be out of the country,” he said. “I believe that being out of the office for that amount of time would not allow me to render effective professional service to the city.”

Atkinson has worked as an assistant city manager for Missouri City since 2007. Prior to coming to Missouri City, he served as the city manager for the city of Sachse, Texas for eight years. During his time in Sachse, Atkinson represented the city and helped facilitate the construction of the President George H.W. Turnpike.

A new city manager will not be named until July, city officials said
