With all 77 precincts reporting, Rep. Ron Reynolds, D-Missouri City, has won the Democratic primary over Angelique Bartholomew for the District 27 seat on the Texas House of Representatives. The incumbent will challenge Republican nominee Ken Bryant in November.

Reynolds received 2,056 votes and 52.9 percent of the electorate, while Bartholomew, a first-time candidate, received 1,830 votes and 47.1 percent of the electorate, according to the Fort Bend County Elections and Voter Registration Office.

"I give all praise and honor [to the glory of] God because there is no other way to explain this victory," Reynolds said. "Many people told me that, 'Ron, there's no way you can win this race with all this negative stuff going on.' I never doubted one second."

He said his aversion to negative campaigning won over voters, and he pledged to continue doing so for the general election.

"I feel great about how we performed in our campaign," said Bartholomew, director of Intuitive Medical Services. "We changed the game."

She thanked her volunteers whom she said worked until the last minute on a grassroots campaign.

With none of the 77 precincts reporting, Reynolds has received 1,302 votes, or 59.2 percent of the electorate. Challenger Bartholomew has received 898 votes, or 40.8 percent of the electorate, according to the Fort Bend County Elections and Voter Registration Office.

Reynolds, the incumbent, is running to serve his fourth term and failed to capture a majority in the March 1 primary election, receiving 48.5 percent of the electorate. Bartholomew, director of Intuitive Medical Services, received 24.1 percent of the electorate, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office.

Reynolds, who is also the Texas House Democratic whip, faces a legal battle amidst the election as he appeals a November conviction by a Montgomery County jury of illegal solicitation of clients. He is out free on bond while he appeals the case, but his challenger said she decided to run as an alternative to the incumbent.

Bartholomew she plans to improve education infrastructure and resources if elected. She said Reynolds would be unable to fully serve constituents should he lose his court appeal.

In the Republican race, Bryant, a Richmond attorney and former Fort Bend ISD trustee, received 3,789 votes, or 52.5 percent of the electorate. His challenger Mary Walker, a real estate agent and retired school bus driver for Alief ISD, received 3,429 votes, or 47.5 percent, respectively, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office.

District 27 lies within Fort Bend County and includes parts of Missouri City, Houston, Stafford, Sugar Land and Pearland.
