Work is underway on a project to replace the I-45 southbound frontage road bridge over Cypress Creek.

As previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper, the bridge has been closed to the traveling public since an emergency closure was enacted May 23 due to safety concerns.

According to Danny Perez, public information officer for the Texas Department of Transportation, the project’s estimated cost has increased from $6.7 million to $8.6 million due to increased material costs as well as costs associated with expediting the project to be completed by summer 2023, instead of March 2024 as previously proposed.

"We certainly understand the concerns of the community and we have worked with the contractor to get this project finished sooner than originally anticipated," Perez said in an email.

Timeline: March 2022-summer 2023

Cost: $8.6 million
