Northwest Assistance Ministries will continue its semimonthly neighborhood super site food giveaways at a new location near the George Bush Intercontinental Airport beginning Sept. 22.

In partnership with the Houston Food Bank, NAM served nearly 5,000 families during its three food distribution events at Spring ISD's Planet Ford Stadium throughout August and September, according to a Sept. 17 news release. By relocating the site to Ecopark-IAH, 16152 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Houston, the nonprofit will be able to supply 3,000 families with 70 pounds of food in one day, the release states.

"We are excited to continue to host these food giveaways with the Houston Food Bank," NAM President and CEO Les Cave said in a statement. "No one should have to suffer from food insecurity, and moving to this new location will allow NAM to provide food to more families in our community."

The first food distribution event at the new location will take place Sept. 22 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or until supplies last. Food giveaways will take place twice per month thereafter.

According to the release, fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy and nonperishable items will be distributed via a drive-thru system, and attendees are asked to wear a mask and stay in their vehicle.

Volunteers, who will be tasked with directing traffic and distributing food, will be required to wear face masks and gloves and have their temperature checked upon arrival for a shift. To inquire about volunteer opportunities, call 281-885-4604 or email [email protected].
