"Mrs. Bush has visited the Barbara Bush Branch Library seven times since the building was dedicated," Maynard said. "The first time was for the dedication and it was a big occasion with lots of people attending."
On other occasions, however, her visits were unexpected.
"The other times were unannounced visits where she surprised children, parents and most of the staff by coming in to read to children," Maynard said. "On many visits, she brought her little dogs. She not only read to the children but met and spoke to parents, staff and customers."
The library remembered Barbara Bush with a tweet on Tuesday evening when news of her death spread across news outlets.
It’s a very sad day for us as we have learned our dear Mrs. Bush has passed away. We thank her for everything she’s done for our library and the world. We will be sure to honor her memory everyday. RIP Barbara Bush.

Other patrons also remembered Bush with Tweets on Wednesday.
One of my favorite things to do with my dad as a little girl was go to the @barbarabushlib and pick out books. Those books opened my eyes to the world and injustices outside my town in northwest Houston. Thanks Barbara Bush for helping me escape and learn. Rest in power. https://t.co/j5q4tOi8K5

This was my library growing up, so “Barbara Bush” will always be synonymous with literacy and my nerdy, bookworm memories in her namesake library. RIP #Barbara. https://t.co/BZFbrIBpdo

"We have fond memories of Mrs. Bush and we will miss her greatly," Maynard said.
The library is undergoing renovations following flooding during Hurricane Harvey, but Maynard said the facility may reopen in May.
A floral tribute is being established at the library front door.
