Growth is on the horizon for Whitmeyer’s Distilling Co.

The Spring-area distillery is opening a 2,000-square-foot lounge that will serve its craft alcohol as well as cigars and coffee in early February, co-owner Travis Whitmeyer said.

Whitmeyer’s leased the additional space in its current business park, located on Hollister Street near FM 1960. The expansion will allow fans of the craft distillery to purchase their popular concoctions, such as the Space City Vodka and Texas Peach Whiskey directly without waiting for the weekend to take a tour.

The new lounge will also allow customers to experience drinking Whitmeyer’s products in an environment completely different than a bar, Whitmeyer said.

“We’re going to be kind of eclectic,” Whitmeyer said. “We’ll have various local musicians come out from time to time. We’ll have food trucks. We have partnerships with local chefs, where they’ll come out and cater it. It’s going to be a full experience. It’s an alternative to going out to the bar. You’ll be able to hit everything all at once.”

Whitmeyer, along with his brother Chris and father Wesley opened the Spring-area distillery nearly four years ago after recognizing a need for spirit distillers in Houston. Since opening, Whitmeyer’s has continued to test flavor combinations, such as its sassafras gin, allowing the company to earn a strong following, Travis said.

“I’ve got 32 recipes that we haven’t yet marketed,” Travis said. “I think we’re still very much in growth mode and still in the infancy of all of this and figuring out what works and what doesn’t. There’s a lot of [research and development] a lot of experimentation. That’s the fun part.”
