1. The deadline to register to vote is tomorrow.
    Tuesday, Oct. 11 is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election in Harris County. Residents can register to vote online, through the mail or in person. Here are other dates to know about the 2016 election.

  2. National Fire Prevention Week takes place this week.
    This week the National Fire Prevention Association promotes National Fire Safety Week. The theme this year is “Don’t Wait—Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years.” Check out some fire safety tips here so you can prevent fires in your own home.

  3. Spring ISD board of trustees will hold a regular board meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the board room of the Gordon M Anderson Leadership Center, 16717 Ella Blvd., Houston. Among the items on the agenda are a public hearing on the 2016 tax rate and a public hearing on the Eickenroht Elementary School improvement plan. See the full agenda here.

  4. Harris County Commissioners Court will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 on the ninth floor of the Harris County Administration Building, 1001 Preston Ave., Houston. The agenda for the meeting is available here.

  5. Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement in Judaism, begins the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 11 and ends the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 12. Locally, observations will be held throughout the day Tuesday at Congregation Jewish Community North, 5400 Fellowship Lane, Spring.
