When she opened Golden Gypsies in 2008, Pam Golden said she meshed her work experiences as a licensed social worker and a jewelry company representative to come up with her business concept.

“[I combined] my last name, Golden, and … ‘gypsy,’ which I was often referred to [as], as I would carry three or four crates of toys in my car to visit children for my job,” she said.

In 2010, Golden Gypsies relocated to a larger location across the street in Old Town Spring, Golden said. The boutique, located on Main Street, sells a variety of jewelry, home decor pieces and gift items, including brand names like Pandora Jewelry and Nora Fleming dishes.

Golden said she and her daughter, Maegan, who became a business partner when the store relocated, go to several markets throughout the year looking for unique and trendy items.

During the winter holidays—a time when the entire store “looks, feels and smells of Christmas”—the boutique sells a variety of Christmas gifts and decorations, Golden said. Beginning in October, Christmas goods go on display, including vintage musical TVs, which showcase winter scenes and holiday jingles, as well as light-up Christmas lanterns. There is also a vintage 1952 O’Keefe & Merritt stove.

“Christmas is our favorite time of the year, and we have already started decorating and selling for this season,” Golden said.

Golden said her boutique is a place where customers can find gifts or treats for themselves or others all year, and she is constantly changing the retail based on customer requests.

“We treat our customers like family—always excited to hear about their happy times and also lend a hug and encouragement during the difficult times,” Golden said. “We listen to what our customers are looking for and keep the merchandise fresh and on trend.”
