Fort Bend County's preliminary early voting results have been released. Here are the early voting numbers for contested races affecting the Richmond area:

Fort Bend County Commissioner Precinct 1


Just over 44,800 voters cast early ballots in the Fort Bend County Commissioner Precinct 1 race. Incumbent Democrat Richard Morrison received 21,096, or 47 percent, of the early vote. Republican challenger Vincent Morales received 23,705, or almost 53 percent of the early vote.


All results are unofficial until canvassed.


Morrison is running for re-election against Republican challenger, Morales, in the Fort Bend County Commissioner Precinct 1 race. Morales has served two terms as mayor of Rosenberg, and Morrison was elected as commissioner in 2008. The candidates answered questions in our election guide Q&A last month.

U.S. House District 22


Brazoria, Fort Bend and Harris counties released unofficial early voting results showing that incumbent Pete Olson is in the lead with 147,292 votes, while Mark Gibson earned 97,685. The figures include absentee votes. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Olson, R-Sugar Land, faces Democratic challenger Gibson for the U.S. House District 22 seat. The candidates answered questions about healthcare and other challenges in the district for our Q&A last month.

Olson is running for his fifth term in office while Gibson, an attorney and small-business owner, is running for his first term. Olson outspent Gibson and received more contributions according to Oct. 15 campaign finance reports.

Texas Senate District 18


Fort Bend and Harris counties are reporting unofficial early voting numbers for the Texas Senate District 18 race. Incumbent Republican Lois Kolkhorst leads with 72,795, or 82.6 percent, votes. Challenger Libertarian Kathie L. Stone received 17.4 percent, or 15,834, votes. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, faces Libertarian Stone for the Texas State Senate District 18 seat. Kolkhorst is running for her second term. She has received and spent more donations than Stone, according to Oct. 15 campaign finance reports.

Texas House District 26


According to unofficial early voting results, incumbent Republican Rick Miller is leading the vote for the District 26 state representative with 32,058 votes, or 58.72 percent, compared to opponent Democrat Sarah DeMerchant, who has gained 22,540 votes, or 41.28 percent. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Miller is running for his third term in office while DeMerchant, an information technology advisor, is running for her first term.

Texas House District 85


Republican incumbent Phil Stephenson took the lead in the race for state Rep. District 85 against Democratic challenger John Davis, according to unofficial early voting results from the Fort Bend County Elections and Voter Registration office.

Stephenson received 16,287 votes, or 54.1 percent of the electorate, while Davis had 13,833 votes, or 45.93 percent of the electorate. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Stephenson is running for his third term in office while Davis, a student at Stephen F. Austin State University, is running for his first term. According to Oct. 15 campaign finance reports, Stephenson outspent Davis and received more contributions. 

Fort Bend County Sheriff


Republican incumbent Troy Nehls, who was elected in 2012 to Fort Bend County sheriff, received nearly 53 percent of the early vote. Democratic contender Michael Ellison, who is making a second bid for the position after losing the 2012 election, is trailing behind at 47 percent.

About 208,000 early votes were cast for the race. No Election Day results have been reported. Countywide results can be found online the Fort Bend County Clerk site.
