A new constable substation in Precinct 4 has opened at 14954 Mueschke Road—next to the Harvest Bible Church—to service growing populations around Fairfield, Cypress Lakes, Ranch Country and other area Municipal Utility Districts.

The station celebrated with a grand opening and community meet-and-greet Aug. 14. The new station will focus on Precinct 4 north of Hwy. 290 and west of Huffmeister Road, officials said.

Before the station opened, the next nearest station was 10 miles away in Lakewood, Lt. Wayne Schultz said.

"Of the 70,000 new residents moving to Harris County every year, 40,000 of them are landing in our precinct in the north and northwest," Schultz said. "We feel this new station is centrally located to allow us to respond to calls out here swiftly. Response time has already diminished astonishingly."

The full-access substation will be open to the community from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., but officers will be patrolling the area at all hours, Schultz said. In addition to the patrols, the station will also deal in investigations, complaints and filing of reports.

Approximately 20 officers will be working from the substation, Schultz said.

"I expect tremendous growth, and I hope as resident populations get bigger, we will be able to get bigger," he said.

Schultz said the most common crimes in the area include tire and wheel thefts, tailgate thefts and breaking into motor vehicles. Captain Steve Whitton emphasized community vigilance, saying residents should not hesitate to report suspicious behavior.

"Nothing that arouses your suspicions is too insignificant for you to call us about," he said.

Attendees expressed gratitude for the attention being paid to their communities.

"This is really what we needed out here," Cypress Park resident Prissy Barnett said. "I was concerned with the growth if there was going to be enough security. They are letting us know they care and want to be involved."

Residents can contact the station to pass on information or ask a question at 281-304-0438. However, residents are still encouraged to call dispatch to get in touch with an officer or report an incident at 281-376-3472.
