The El Dorado Boulevard overpass at I-45 South will be closed to traffic until late November because of construction on the interstate, said Texas Department of Transportation officials. The closure will begin July 10 at 9 p.m.

Eastbound motorists on El Dorado Boulevard will be redirected south onto the I-45 frontage road to Nasa Road One where they will U-turn onto I-45 northbound and then exit left back onto El Dorado Boulevard.

Drivers heading west on El Dorado Boulevard will be detoured to the northbound I-45 frontage road and U-turn at FM 1959 onto southbound I-45 before exiting right onto El Dorado Boulevard.

The overpass will be demolished, and I-45 will travel over the El Dorado Boulevard intersection upon completion. The reconstruction will improve mobility and safety, TxDOT officials said.

The reconstruction is part of a $93 million, TxDOT-funded project to widen I-45 to 10 main lanes from FM 2351 to Medical Center Boulevard. The Bay Area Boulevard overpass will undergo the same reconfiguration as El Dorado Boulevard, and the entire project is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2017.
