Former trustee Virgil Gant will soon have his namesake reflected at the Pearland ISD Education Support Center at 1928 N. Main Street in Pearland.
Gant died at the age of 68 in an auto accident on June 26 outside of Ozona, Texas. Gant served 16 years on the PISD school board, including time as board president.
“Various ideas were put forward, such as naming one of our district roads for him,” PISD Superintendent John Kelly said. “But what appears to be the best idea of all that has been presented is to consider naming [the Education Support Center] in memory of Virgil Gant.”
Gant was a U.S. Navy veteran and a 1970 graduate of Texas A&M University,
according to his obituary. He was born on the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California and was raised in Lancaster, Texas.
“I think this would be a fitting tribute given that he spent 16 years as a trustee here, plus was involved in many, many school activities,” Kelly said.
