Friendswood ISD consistently scored higher than the state average on 2016 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams, according to data released Monday.

FISD earned a districtwide Met Standard rating with no campuses earning a Needs Improvement rating.

End-of-course exams for high school students included algebra I, biology, English I, English II and U.S. history.

Statewide algebra I scores reflect an 81 percent satisfactory rating, while FISD scores were 97 percent satisfactory. FISD scored 9 percent higher than the state average in biology—with a perfect 100 percent rating—and 5 percent higher in U.S. history with a 99 percent satisfactory rating.

English I and II test scores were 26 and 28 percent higher than the state average with a 89 and 94 percent satisfactory rating, respectively.

Among grades three through eight, all students took the reading and math STAAR tests. Statewide, sixth graders scored lowest with a 71 percent satisfactory rating in reading, and eighth graders scored the highest with an 82 percent satisfactory rating. In FISD, seventh graders scored the lowest with a 91 percent satisfactory rating, and eighth graders scored the highest with a 96 percent satisfactory rating.

FISD fourth graders scored 20 percent higher on the STAAR writing exam than the state average with an 89 percent satisfactory rating, and seventh graders scored 18 percent higher than the state average at 88 percent.

In social studies and science, eighth grade scores in FISD were 88 percent and 94 percent satisfactory, respectively. FISD eighth graders scored 23 percent higher in social studies and 18 percent higher in science than the state average. FISD fifth graders scored 17 percent higher than the state average in science with a 92 percent satisfactory rating.
