Following a workshop Aug. 2, the Pearland ISD board of trustees is "likely" to call for a November bond referendum at its Aug. 9 meeting, according to a district statement.

The Long-Range Planning Community Advisory Committee presented 36 district-wide projects to the board to renovate facilities and upgrade technology in order to address increasing enrollment without additional buildings, officials said.

The cost of a potential bond package would be determined by the number of projects selected, officials said. The board will discuss the matter and has until Aug. 22 to call for an election in November.

“If we do this work, we estimate that additional schools will not be needed for at least another eight to 10 years," Superintendent John Kelly said. "[However], we do need to add capacity at several existing schools and ensure that all our schools have the necessary maintenance and upgrades to continue serving our students."

The advisory committee put together the project list after six months of research that included campus tours and discussions with district staff and community members.

"I am thankful for the work of all those involved and am hopeful the community will support these plans," Kelly said.
