Friendswood ISD's safety-focused Mustang Voices, held on July 26, reiterated the wishes of the School Safety Advisory Committee at the July 16 board of trustees meeting. Since the meeting, FISD has moved forward with hiring security monitors as well as scheduling training for staff, substitute teachers and students.

The School Safety Advisory Committee advised the school to add security monitors. Following the recommendation, the district is currently trying to fill six security monitor positions.

The district has also scheduled training for staff as well as students. Staff will be trained prior to the start of the school year; students will be trained at the beginning of the school year.

"You need to hit it immediately because you don't know when the emergency will take place," Executive Director of Safety and Operations Erich Kreiter said at the July 26 meeting.

Staff will also produce uniform picture ID badges for substitutes and employees as another security measure.

Cellphone numbers of high school students will also be collected in order to send emergency text messages more quickly. The cellphone numbers will be confidential and used for emergencies only.
