Friendswood Fourth of July Friendswood will host its 121st annual Fourth of July Celebration on Monday.[/caption]

Pearland and Friendswood will each host events July 4 to celebrate 240 years since the U.S. declared its independence.

The city of Friendswood Fourth of July Steering Committee will present the 121st annual celebration beginning with the Grand Parade at 10 a.m. The parade, which will have more than 100 participants, will travel down Friendswood Drive from Heritage Drive to Stevenson Park.

Following the parade, Stevenson Park—located at 1100 S. Friendswood Drive—will host live entertainment, amusement rides, games and food vendors until 3:30 p.m. Admission is free, and $10 amusement ride wristbands will also be available.

Activities will resume at 7:30 p.m. and conclude with a fireworks display at approximately 9:20 p.m., officials said.

In Pearland, July 4 festivities will begin at 6 p.m. The free event will be held at the Pearland High School football stadium, located at 3775 S. Main St. A free shuttle to the site will be available from Turner College & Career High School, located at 4717 Bailey Road.

Houston-based cover band The Slags will perform a variety of music genres to kick off the event. Games, food, craft and novelty booths will be available. The city will salute veterans of foreign wars prior to a fireworks display, which will begin at 9 p.m.

Attendees are allowed to bring chairs, blankets and food. However, glass containers, alcohol, tobacco and pets are prohibited.

“July 4 is a time for family and friends to come together in celebration of the freedoms that we enjoy every day,” said Chris Orlea, Pearland Parks & Recreation director. “It is wonderful to be able to provide Pearland residents with an opportunity to celebrate in the community.”
