Effective Oct. 1, Lone Star Executive Airport will change its name to The Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport following Montgomery County Commissioners Court approval during its July 14 meeting.

The name was developed through an airport shareholder survey conducted in fall 2014. The name change is intended to better indicate the geographic location of the airport for marketing purposes, Airport Director Scott Smith said.

“It will better identify our location for business and corporate aviation and other potential users so they will realize they have options,” Smith said. “It will help with our marketing efforts and much more clearly identify that we are on the north side of Houston without misleading anyone to think we’re actually in Houston.”

The Lone Star Executive Airport, which is located at 10260 Carl Pickering Memorial Drive in Conroe, serves as a reliever airport for the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The airport is frequently used by corporate aviation and local pilots.

“We wanted to tie ourselves with Conroe because we believe in the next 20-25 years there will be significant economic development,” Smith said. “But we also wanted to tie ourselves with Houston because it is the economic driver of the entire region.”

Along with the name change, Lone Star Executive Airport is also working to redesign its website and social media accounts.
