Project spotlight


1. The Grand Parkway

Construction continues on segments F-1, F-2 and G of Houston's third outer loop. The project features overpasses and interchanges at Hwy. 290, Hwy. 249 and I-45.

  • Timeline: Project is estimated to be complete in December.

  • Cost: $1 billion

  • Funding sources: Texas Department of Transportation


Lane closures for The Grand Parkway construction

  • The I-45 northbound Hardy Toll Road exit, I-45 northbound frontage road left lane and I-45 northbound right shoulder from the Spring Stuebner Road entrance ramp to north of exit No. 72 will be closed through the summer.

  • The I-45 southbound Spring Stuebner Road exit will be closed through March 31.

  • The Mossy Oaks Road eastbound and westbound closure at I-45 is expected to open Feb. 18.

  • Boudreaux Road both eastbound and westbound lanes from I-45 to Old Boudreaux Road will be closed from 8 p.m.–6 a.m. through Feb. 14.

  • Both left lanes of Champion Forest Drive at Boudreaux Road will be closed through March 31.

  • The two FM 2920 eastbound lanes from Inverness Crossing to Boudreaux Road will be closed from 8 p.m.–6 a.m. Feb. 17–20. Eastbound traffic will be diverted to westbound lanes.


Project updates


2. Tomball Tollway

The paving of the Tomball Tollway from south of Spring Cypress Road to north of Canyon Gate Pointe Drive and from Alice Road to Business 249 is complete. Paving from Alice Road to FM 2920 is 95 percent complete and from Holderrieth Road to Willow Creek is 80 percent complete. The mainlane plaza structure and tolling equipment are installed and the retaining walls are complete. Signage, grading, seeding and landscaping will be installed within the next month. The bridges at Willow Creek and Alice Road and from Holderrieth Road to Business 249 are complete. The Tomball Tollway will operate as a six-lane electronically monitored road in between Hwy. 249 feeder lanes.

3. Aldine Westfield Road widening

A project in the design phase, the widening of Aldine Westfield Road from East Louetta Road to Riley Fuzzel Road could begin construction this year. Harris County plans to expand the two-lane asphalt roadway to a four-lane concrete throroughfare.

  • Timeline: Project is estimated to be sent out for bid in the fourth quarter of 2015.

  • Cost: $4.4 million

  • Funding sources: Harris County Precinct 4


4. Gosling Road widening

Harris County has plans to widen Gosling Road from Spring Stuebner Road north to West Mossy Oaks Road. The roadway will be widened to a five-lane concrete pavement with a drainage system and a railroad crossing. The project is in the design phase.

  • Timeline: Project is estimated to be sent out for bid in the second quarter of 2015. Construction is expected to take 12–15 months to complete.

  • Cost: $7.8 million

  • Funding sources: Harris County Precinct 4


5. Riley Fuzzel Road widening

Construction could begin in 2016 on the widening of Riley Fuzzel Road from 1,375 feet west of West Hardy Road to 600 feet west of the Hardy Toll Road. Currently in the design phase, the project will expand the roadway from a two-lane asphalt roadway to a five-lane concrete thoroughfare.

  • Timeline:Project is estimated to be sent out for bid in the first quarter of 2016.

  • Cost: $2.5 million

  • Funding sources: Harris County Precinct 4


6. Spring Cypress Road widening

Harris County has plans to add a fifth lane to Spring Cypress Road from I-45 east to Lexington Boulevard. The contractor, Angel Brothers Construction, is scheduled to begin construction on the project March 2 with a scheduled completion set for October barring unforeseen circumstances.

  • Timeline: March–October 2015

  • Cost: $3.49 million
