Ventana Development is breaking ground this fall on a new 200-acre residential development, the Trails at Katy. The first homes are expected to be complete in late 2014 or early 2015.

The Trails of Katy will contain more than 300 new homes when the development is complete. Pulte Homes, Westin Homes and Devon Street Homes are building the development's houses. Prices range from the low $300,000s, potentially reaching the $800,000s, said Jim Grover, vice president of Ventana.

Community amenities include hike-and-bike trails, a community center, swimming pool and tennis courts.

The neighborhood's location is at the future intersection of Cane Island Parkway and an extension of Kingsland Boulevard. Grover said there will be approximately 8 acres of developable commercial space when Cane Island is extended to connect with 1463. The Trails of Katy will be adjacent to this space, providing residents with easy access to any retail and restaurants that may be built in that space.

Grover said the connectivity that Cane Island Parkway will bring to the area once it joins 1463 and Katy ISD were major factors in the company's decision to develop a new neighborhood in the area.
