A new wine bar has made its way onto the scene in Cypress, and owners Karen Babineaux and Lisa Sprague hope to make it a relaxing neighborhood gathering place.

The Hidden Cellar opened Oct. 10 off House Hahl Road near the communities of Bridgeland and Blackhorse Ranch. The front portion of the business serves as a gift boutique with a selection of wine-themed home dcor, while the back is a wine bar complete with stone archways, hardwood floors and flat-screen TVs.

In 2010, Babineaux and Sprague launched their first business together—D'Vine Styles Dcor—and began selling home dcor and wine-related items online and at high-end gift markets around Houston.

"We were using wines we got from H-E-B and Randall's or Specs, so we decided we needed to sell wine in addition to these tools," Babineaux said. "It came to fruition that we put a wine bar in the back of our boutique."

The Hidden Cellar offers 30 wines by the glass and has more than 100 bottles of wine in stock from around the world. Visitors can also find beer and a menu of cheese plates, appetizers, desserts and other small bites that change every few weeks.

"We try to keep things interesting for people coming in," Sprague said.

The women chose to open the Hidden Cellar off House Hahl Road near Bridgeland, Cypress Creek Lakes and Blackhorse Ranch because of the high amount of new home growth in the communities.

"Knowing that, we said there are all these people in these wonderful neighborhoods, and we're the shortcut to them," Babineaux said.

Guests can also watch sports on the weekend at the Hidden Cellar, where there is access to the NFL Sunday Ticket. Ultimately, Babineaux and Sprague want the Hidden Cellar to be a relaxing, comfortable environment where guests can relax with a glass of wine close to home.

"We hope everyone enjoys the conversation, a glass of wine and has a relaxing time," Sprague said.
