Tomball area residents will have an opportunity to hear music from fiddles and banjos at its second annual Bluegrass Festival Oct. 26.
The event, held at the city's historic Depot, will begin at 11:30 a.m. with The Coleman Brothers, an East Texas bluegrass band, and local pickers.
Makin Tyme, whose regional bluegrass includes country and blues, will perform from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. Austin-based performers, Wood and Wire, will perform at the festival at 2:45 p.m.
The event's headliner will be bluegrass veterans David Davis & the Warrior River Boys, who will play at 4:30 p.m.
The performances will all be at the gazebo instead of the stage at the Depot, said Mike Baxter, marketing director for Tomball.
"For the Bluegrass and Honky Tonk Festivals we use the gazebo because of the small-town feel you get by having them there instead of up on the big stage," Baxter said.
Last year, about 3,100 people attended the event, and Baxter expects about 4,500 this year.
"If the weather is nice, we could easily do 5,000," he said. "Bring a lawn chair and bring picnic blankets and watch the performances."
The festival will include a jam area for bluegrass musicians on the patio at The Empty Glass wine bar located nearby.
The event will also include food from Mel's Country Caf and Snookie's Fish Camp, as well as fried pork skins and kettle corn. There will also be various vendors and activities for kids.
The festival is from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission and parking are free. The festival is at the historic Depot, 201 Market St., Tomball. Call 281-351-5484, visit www.tomballtx.gov or go to www.facebook.com/TomballTexanForFun for more information.
