The Missouri City Fire Department will hold its second annual open house at Fire Station 1 at 3849 Cartwright Road on Oct. 5 from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. The event will focus on kitchen safety in the home and will provide visitors with live demonstrations, information and training on fire safety and prevention.

"We are excited about continuing our commitment to provide fire protection and education to the community," Missouri City Fire Chief Russel Sander said. "Hundreds of residents and visitors joined us for our inaugural open house last year and we're looking forward to a successful event this year, too."

The event features a simulated smoke house to show hazards of a real house fire, adult fire extinguisher training, fire safety drills for children and a tour of the firehouse and a fire truck. The fire department's tactical response team will perform a rooftop rescue exercise at 11 a.m. Visitors will also learn about effective evacuation techniques.
