The Woodlands Township is now accepting applications from community residents wishing to seek a position on its board of directors. This year's election is scheduled for Nov. 5.

Positions 5, 6 and 7 are up for election this year, and with the filing date having been open just three days, there already will be changes to the makeup of the board.

Position 5 director Nelda Blair announced her plans Aug. 8 not to seek re-election. Blair was appointed to the Township Center Improvement District, the predecessor to The Woodlands Township Board of Directors, in 1996 by the Montgomery County Commissioner's Court. Blair served as chairman of the township board for three consecutive terms.

"Our community is such a special place, and I feel confident that the Township Board will continue to work toward a high quality of life for our residents, balanced with business and tourism to keep us financially strong," Blair said in a prepared statement. "I am excited about expanding my other interests and taking advantage of several new opportunities. The public speaking engagements in my schedule are a source of great enjoyment, so I will devote more time and energy to that area."

Blair also said she plans to "participate in various political campaigns" in 2014 and beyond.

Meanwhile, 39-year-old attorney John McMullan announced his plans Aug. 1 to seek election to Position 5, the same position Blair currently holds.

"I want to bring 'new energy' to our community government to ensure that The Woodlands remains an attractive place to live, work, play, and learn," McMullan said in a prepared statement.

Peggy Hausman currently holds position 6, while Bruce Tough occupies Position 7. Tough also serves as the board's chairman.

The deadline for residents to apply for a spot on the ballot for this year's township board of directors election is Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. For more information, visit the township's website at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov, or call 281-210-3800.
