On April 29, students and staff of Langham Creek High School presented hundreds of new and gently used sneakers to New Missions—a program dedicated to rebuilding and supporting Haiti following a recent series of tragic events.

"Sneakers are still coming, and I think it will be close to 1,000 pairs when they are through," said John Carswell, director of development for New Missions. "It is wonderful to see the generosity spread over so many people. The students at Langham Creek caught the vision and made the issue of covering the feet of the Haitians personal and have influenced hundreds of other students to bring new pairs of shoes."

Other Cy–Fair ISD schools also participate in the Give Sneakers campaign, including Cy–Fair High School and several elementary schools.

This particular division of New Missions—Give Sneakers—was implemented this year and expects to provide donated footwear to thousands of Haitians. The idea for this effort was developed by New Missions' president Tim DeTellis, who lives in Haiti, when he noticed that shoes being worn by many residents did not fit and were often being shared.

"We are finally beginning to see the fruits of this idea," Carswell said.
