The City of Shenandoah will spend about $1.7 million on several capital project ventures during the fourth quarter of 2012 and throughout 2013, including renovations to the city's swimming pool and water distribution improvements.

At its Sept. 26 meeting, City Council approved the projects. The plan calls for $567,000 in storm and sewer water drainage improvements in the Vision Park corridor, $530,000 in improvements for the Grogan's Mill waterline and water plant No. 3 discharge line.

The renovations to the city's swimming pool, at a cost of $442,180, will begin Nov. 1 and will be completed in time for the 2013 summer swimming season on May 1, according to city documents.

Next summer, the city will begin improvements of drainage, paving and striping at the David Memorial Drive and Tamina Road intersection. City Hall will see minor upgrades through a roof renovation project and improved heating and air conditioning systems.

The city's 2012-13 budget calls for $1.1 million in capital improvement projects, while about $600,000 has been transferred from last year's general fund surplus to help pay for the projects.
