A Houston law firm is hosting a town hall meeting to discuss property rights for business and homeowners potentially affected by the $98 million expansion of FM 1960, which could begin construction in 2022.

The Freeman Law Firm-organized town hall meeting will be held at  6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28,  at the Phillip Cezeaux Recreation Building, 100 N. Houston Ave., in Humble.

In addition to representatives from the Freeman Law Firm, the meeting will include certified appraisers who will meet with property owners to educate them on their rights as the Texas Department of Transportation begins to acquire right of way for the project.

TxDOT estimated 10 homes and businesses could be displaced by the widening of the road from four to six lanes between Wilson Road in Humble and West Lake Houston Parkway.

However, other businesses could be affected by additional medians and potential changes to entrances. Intermittent lane closures could also increase gridlock and affect businesses, the firm said.

"We want to provide a forum that allows us to educate and inform the community about their property rights, compensation and how to best prepare for the upcoming condemnation process. ... The plans to widen and improve FM 1960 will have an impact on the entire community, including closed entrances and more traffic during heavy construction phases," according to a statement.
