COVID-19 recoveries in seven Lake Houston area slightly outpaces active cases. However, active cases in most ZIP codes have more than doubled in the last month.

Of the seven ZIP codes in Community Impact Newspaper's Lake Houston-Humble-Kingwood coverage area, there have been 1,986 total cases, 903 active cases, 1,018 recoveries, 48 deaths and 17 unknown cases as of July 10.

The 77396 ZIP code in the Beltway 8 area continues to have the most active cases of the seven ZIP codes, with 209 active cases, according to Harris County Public Health data.

While the 77339 ZIP code in the western portion of Kingwood continues to have a relatively low percentage of total residents testing positive with COVID-19, the ZIP code has had the largest jump in deaths since June. On June 9, Harris and Montgomery counties reported that the 77339 ZIP code had six deaths. As of July 10, the ZIP has had 15 deaths.


One of the deaths was originally incorrectly reported in the 77345 ZIP code, according to HCPH officials. The resident's home address was later found to be in the 77339 ZIP code.

  • 77339: 146 cases or 0.35% of residents; 83 active, 45 recovered, 15 deaths and three unknowns (41,205 population)

  • 77345: 35 cases or 0.12% of residents; 28 active, seven recovered and no deaths (28,804 population)

The number of active coronavirus cases in the Lake Houston area has increased since late May, as has the number of recovered cases with recovered cases outpacing active cases in the region.


Harris County Public Health and Montgomery County's June 9 data shows that recovered cases outpace active cases in five out of seven ZIP codes in Community Impact Newspaper's Lake Houston-Humble-Kingwood coverage area: 77044 in the Summerwood and Sheldon area, 77396 in the Beltway 8 area, 77338 in Humble, 77346 in Atascocita and 77365 in the New Caney area.

However, active cases are higher than recovered cases in ZIP codes 77345 in the eastern portion of Kingwood and 77339 in the western portion of Kingwood. Despite this, ZIP code 77345 continues to have the lowest number of reported cases in the seven ZIP codes, with 15 confirmed cases, 10 of which are active, four of which are recoveries and one death.

The Humble-area ZIP code of 77338 continues to have the highest number of cases of the seven ZIP codes at 202 cases. Although its number of active cases has decreased and recoveries increased since May 28, eight additional people also died during the time frame—bringing the total number of deaths in the ZIP code to 18 people.

Within the seven ZIP codes, there are 889 confirmed coronavirus cases as of June 9—258 more cases than on May 28. Of the 889 confirmed cases, there are 379 active cases, 477 recoveries and 33 deaths.

Harris County Public Health recently updated its ZIP code case map to include a breakdown of coronavirus cases that are active, recovered or deceased.

The data shows that the 77338 ZIP code in the Humble area continues to have the highest number confirmed coronavirus cases overall among seven ZIP codes in the Lake Houston area. The 77338 ZIP code has 163 total cases, 85 of which are active and 65 of whom have recovered. Ten residents within the ZIP code have died, the most deaths among the seven ZIP codes.


While the 77396 ZIP code near the Beltway 8 area has the second highest total number of cases at 157, the area has more residents who have recovered from the virus than are still active, with 87 people who have recovered and 69 active cases.

The 77345 ZIP code in the eastern part of Kingwood continues to have the lowest number of reported cases in the seven ZIP codes, with 13 confirmed cases, nine of which are active and four of which are recoveries.

The 77339 ZIP code in Kingwood and the 77365 ZIP code in the Porter and New Caney areas straddle Harris and Montgomery counties, so case numbers shown below are a combination of reports from both counties.

Within the seven ZIP codes that make up Community Impact Newspaper's Lake Houston-area coverage, there are 631 confirmed coronavirus cases, and 348, or a little more than half, are still active as of May 28.

The 77338 ZIP code in the Humble area continues to have the highest number confirmed coronavirus cases among seven ZIP codes in the Lake Houston area. Within the seven ZIP codes that make up Community Impact Newspaper's Lake Houston-area coverage, there are 576 confirmed coronavirus cases as of May 12.

The Humble area, or the 77338 ZIP code, has the highest number of cases at 130, or 0.3% of its residents. It is followed by the Beltway 8 area, or the 77396 ZIP code, with 116 cases, and then the Summerwood neighborhood and the Sheldon area, or ZIP code 77044, with 110 cases.

The 77345 ZIP code in the eastern part of Kingwood continues to have the lowest number of reported cases in the seven ZIP codes with 7 confirmed cases, or 0.02% of residents.

The 77338 ZIP code in Humble now has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases among seven ZIP codes in the Lake Houston area. Within the seven ZIP codes that make up Community Impact Newspaper's Lake Houston-area coverage, there are 483 confirmed coronavirus cases as of May 5.

The Humble area, or the 77338 ZIP code, now has the highest number of cases at 117—making it the fourth-highest case count in all Harris County ZIP codes. It is followed by the Beltway 8 area, or the 77396 ZIP code, with 99 cases, and then the Summerwood neighborhood and the Sheldon area, or ZIP code 77044, with 94 cases.

Since Community Impact Newspaper last reported case numbers April 21, the 77338 ZIP code also saw the highest jump in cases from 50 to 117 cases—a 134% increase. This comes more than a week after a mobile testing site was set up at the Humble Civic Center on April 20-22. The mobile site is set to return this week from May 7-9 at the same location.

A week after the Harris County Public Heath Department released coronavirus case number ranges by ZIP code, the department released an interactive map April 20 showing the exact numbers of cases per ZIP code.

As of April 21 data, there are 313 confirmed coronavirus cases in seven ZIP codes in Lake Houston area. The three ZIP codes with the highest recorded cases continue to be 77044, which includes the Summerwood neighborhood and the Sheldon area; 77396, which is along Beltway 8; and 77346, which is Atascocita.

The 77339 ZIP code in Kingwood and the 77365 ZIP code in the Porter and New Caney areas straddle both Harris and Montgomery counties, so case numbers shown below are a combination of reports from both counties.

Officials with the Harris County Public Health Department released data for coronavirus cases by ZIP code April 12, showing there are at least 169 positive cases across seven Lake Houston-area ZIP codes.

As of April 13 data, three Lake Houston-area ZIP codes in Harris County have recorded 41-60 confirmed cases of the coronavirus—77044, which is the Summerwood area; 77346, which is Atascocita; and 77396, which is along Beltway 8.

According to American Community Survey five-year estimates data for 2018, 77044 has a total population of 45,885, while 77396 and 77346 ZIP codes had 57,775 and 65,967 residents, respectively.
