Katy ISD's board of trustees took a moment Monday to addressed the facilities bond that passed Nov. 8 with about 65 percent of the vote. Trustees thanked administrators and the bond committee for publicity efforts and public information sessions held prior to the bond election.

"I think that the community felt more educated on what they were voting for and the numbers showed," trustee Courtney Doyle said.

See what else the board heard in Monday's agenda:

1. $12 million from insurance approved for Harvey recovery
Trustees approved a fiscal year 2017-18 budget amendment for about $12 million for insurance claim proceeds related to Tropical Storm Harvey repairs in the district. Another nearly $3 million in recovery expenditures was also approved by trustees, with contracted maintenance and repairs the biggest such expenditure, according to meeting documents.

2. Donations still coming from around the U.S.
According to KISD’s monthly donation report, flood recovery contributions are still coming from around the U.S. The biggest cash contribution for flood-related needs came from Eastside Elementary School in Denham Springs, Louisiana, for $1,607.50, while donors from other Texas cities, Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Virginia and California also gave funds to KISD this month.

The KISD Police Department also received two Alumacraft 12-foot Jon Boats from Academy Sports + Outdoors in Katy, worth a combined $1,169.98, according to the donation report.

3. Third schedule option added for the Simon Youth Academy
The academy was created by the Simon Youth Foundation at Katy Mills as a way to curb high school student dropout numbers. Previously, 8 a.m.-noon and 12:30-4:30 p.m. with a lunch period from noon-12:30 p.m. were the only available blocks of time, but 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. was added Monday.

The 52 currently enrolled students in the program receive a personalized learning environment and can now also personalize their schedule to meet personal or financial needs, according to KISD meeting documents.
