On a typical Friday night, the staff at Local Table and The Local Bar said their patios in the Villagio Town Center fill with Katyites who want a relaxing gathering spot.

Local Table opened in April 2016 at 22756 Westheimer Parkway, Ste. 100, Katy, followed by The Local Bar in February 2017 next door in Ste. 190. The businesses are co-owned by brothers Shervin and Neima Sharifi, whose family owns the Hungry’s Café and Bistro restaurants in Houston.

“We liked the feel of the town center, having the courtyard and the fountain where the back patio faces,” Shervin said. “But, it had been multiple restaurants prior to us getting here that all have failed.”

The owners wanted to attract the master-planned communities of families who wanted quality dining without driving into Houston. Shervin also said many of Hungry’s customers in the Energy Corridor live in Katy.

Shervin described Local Table as “American with a Mediterranean flair,” but customers can also find tacos, pizza, and other flavors scattered throughout the menu.

“We wanted to provide Hungry’s years of freshness, right, but with a bit of a more—urban rustic twist,” he said.

While Local Table is for all ages, The Local Bar caters to an older, later clientele. It has a reputation for popular craft cocktails, general manager and bartender Lindsey Coppedge said.

Since opening a year ago, she designed the establishment’s menu and expanded its bourbon offerings. Her variation on an Old Fashioned, named I Walk the Line ($11), is Logan’s  favorite at the bar and uses black cherries soaked in brown sugar bourbon.

“I think we’ve got most of the brand new opening kinks out,” she said.

In May, the Sharifi brothers took over an adjacent space vacated by Babaloo Bar and Grill, which they turned into an event hall named Local Headquarters. The space can accommodate up to 75 people, and Sales and Marketing Director Ginger Logan said they hope to upgrade the audiovisual equipment and continue redecorating.

She said the biggest challenge now is what lies ahead for the eatery.

“Do we expand to another suburban area? We are looking at the possibility,” she said.
